Pau is a commune on the northern edge of the Pyrenees, and capital of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques Département in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. It is located in the heart of the former sovereign Principality of Béarn, of which it was the capital from 1464. Pau has a population of 80,000, making it the largest city in the Béarn and in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
